Schloss Heidelberg tower
Most of Heidelberg Castle is in ruins today, but a visit offers wonderful views of the city and the Neckar River below.

Heidelberg's old stone bridge on the Neckar River was erected between 1786 and 1788.
Heidelberg bridge plaque
This plaque commemorates the victory by the Austrian "Prince Schwarzenberg Ulanen-Regiment" that bravely defended the bridge against the French in October 1799.
Heidelberg bridge Hochwasser
Another historic plaque relates the story of various floods that have inundated the city of Heidelberg over the years. A mark on the bridge gate shows the the height of the 1784 flood that destroyed the old wooden bridge.
