Located in the Albert Einstein Science Park in Potsdam, the Einstein Tower was originally built in 1921 as a solar telescope to verify Albert Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Today the Einsteinturm functions as a working solar observatory as part of the Leibniz Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam. Designed by Erich Mendelsohn, the unique tower was badly damaged in World War II, but was restored in 1999.
