Das Neue Palais (New Palace) was built between 1763 and 1769 under Frederick the Great. Located at the western end of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, the baroque New Palace, with over 200 rooms, was designed to impress the Prussian king's visitors, but Frederick only lived in his grand palace occasionally. Later the palace served as the primary residence of other Prussian and German rulers, including Kaiser (Emperor) Friedrich III and Kaiser Wilhelm II. Since the end of German royal rule in 1918, the New Palace has been a museum.
