Sanssouci Palace stands on a hill above a terraced vineyard overlooking Sanssouci Park in Potsdam. The palace was the summer home of Frederick the Great, the King of Prussia. The Rococo style structure was completed in 1747. Later, in the 19th century, Sanssouci Palace became a residence of Frederick William (Wilhelm) IV. He had the architect Ludwig Persius restore and enlarge the building.
