Berlin - French Cemetery II, Liesenstraße 7 | When the original French Cemetery on Chausseestraße became crowded, a second one was opened about a mile away on Liesenstraße. It is in this second French Cemetery (Kirchhof II der franz. Gemeinde) where the German novelist and poet Theodor Fontane is buried. His grave is in the center of this photo. The column on the right marks the grave of Leopold A.F. Arends (1817-1882), one of several German inventors of stenographic (shorthand) writing. - Part of this cemetery, including some graves, was destroyed to make room for a section of the Berlin Wall.
