Inside the Wieskirche. Compared to its rather plain exterior, the interior of the Pilgrimage Church of Wies is a marvelous display of rococo ornateness. Constructed between 1745 and 1754, the church is the result of “miracle” in 1738, when a farm girl claimed she saw tears in the eyes of a carved wooden figure of Christ. A shrine, which later became the church, was built on the site. After the Wieskirche became a World Heritage site in 1983, a 10.6-million-DM restoration was carried out between 1985 and 1991.
