“Leb nicht dazwischen, sondern...” by the Russian-born artist Schamil (Gamil) Gimajew. This is a good example of a 2009 restoration that did not simply recreate the artist’s original artwork, but is a revised, reimagined version by the same artist. As one artist put it, “Twenty years later, I think I should be able to paint something even better than before.” (See the same section in 2006.) Gimajew also repainted another East Side work (“The mask”) for his fellow artist Wjatscheslav Schljachow — as an exact copy based on photos.
