October 2007: A close-up view of Birgit Kinder’s playful Trabi bursting through the Berlin Wall. It is sad to see the lack of artistic appreciation shown for this classic work by people from all over the world, who apparently have no grasp of the historic significance of the East Side Gallery they have so mindlessly defaced. According to Kinder’s own signature (lower right), she has already done three restorations/touch-ups — in 1996, 1998, and 2000. Also see the 2000 version of Kinder’s Trabant (as it looked when new) and her newest 2009 version.
