In this view looking north from inside the Holocaust Memorial we can see the US Embassy building in the background on Behrenstraße. On the left, a small portion of the Reichstag’s glass dome can be seen in the distance. The Holocaust Memorial was designed by the American architect Peter Eisenman (Eisenman Architects, New York). His design, as revised in 1998, won out after two separate design contests for the Memorial. The German parliament approved the Eisenman II design in June 1999, but construction did not begin until April 2003.
