In this close-up view of the dedication plaque inside the USS Arizona Memorial we see the name of the Honolulu architectural firm: “Johnson & Perkins, Preis & Associates” (third line down, right side). Alfred Preis was the lead designer for the memorial, which was dedicated on Memorial Day 1962. As “enemy aliens,” Preis and his wife were interned on Sand Island for three months following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
