This interior view of the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor reveals the design developed by the Austrian-born Honolulu architect Alfred Preis. Elvis Presley was one of the most famous people who helped raise money to fund the memorial’s construction. His March 1961 benefit concert at Bloch Arena, Pearl Harbor raised a little more than $64,000. A combination of private donations and government funding paid for the memorial’s $500,000 total construction cost.
