The sparkling glass interior of the Galeries Lafayette department store on Berlin's Friedrichstraße. The Friedrichstraße shopping avenue is returning to its former glory days, in stark contrast to the gray East German scene of Checkpoint Charlie days. The Galeries Lafayette store at the intersection of Friedrichstraße and Französische Straße opened in 1996.
