Die Straße des 17. Juni, the Avenue of the 17th of June, as seen from the top of the Victory Column (die Siegessäule). The name of this avenue, which cuts straight through Berlin’s Tiergarten park between the Victory Column and the Brandenburg Gate, commemorates the workers’ uprising - Volksaufstand - that took place in the German Democratic Republic in 1953. In the distance, you can see the Brandenburg Gate and the television tower that was formerly a landmark of communist East Berlin.
